Wednesday Pennant Round 15 2022/2023 – Early Start

The forecast maximum temperature on the BOM website for Wednesday 22 February 2023 issued at 4. 10 pm on Monday 20 February 2023 is 38 degrees Celsius.

As per Rule 9.4 of the Metropolitan Pennant Conditions of Play 2022-23, all Wednesday Round 15 Pennant games are declared as “Early Start” games, and will be played on Wednesday 22 February 2023, with games commencing by 9.30am unless rescheduled by agreement between individual clubs & with MBA Match & Program committee approval prior to this time (Rule 5.1).

All games will be played/completed under the modified playing conditions summarised below regardless of starting time/day.

Rule 5.7 – games that are played as Early Start Heat Policy conditions do not have compulsory mid- game breaks. However, Side Managers are advised to be mindful of the duty of care for all participants and monitor the conditions and consider breaks, if necessary, to provide participants with opportunities to hydrate.

Clubs are reminded that they need to have a dedicated person monitoring the temperature (as per Rule 9.2) to ensure that the Umpire of the Day is made aware if the cut-off temperature (38 degrees Celsius at the nominated Weather Station) is reached during the game. [Refer Page 2]

Rule 5.3.2 – for 9.30am start games, greens may not be available for practice. No practice is allowed before 8.30am.

Rule 4.2 – the number of ends played by each rink will be reduced to:

Fours: 18 ends                             Triples: 21 ends                         Pairs: 15 ends

Rule 10.1 – the minimum number of completed ends to declare a game “complete” will be reduced to:

Premier League, Divisions 1 – 3: 62 ends                           Division 4: 36 ends

Any game that does not reach completion before being abandoned will not be replayed. Incomplete games will be treated as a Draw (Rule 10.2.1.3)

Do not enter results into BowlsLink until a game has been finalised.

9.2.4 It is a requirement that a check of the temperature at the designated weather station is done [by a responsible person] shortly after each hour and half hour during play.9.2.5 If the recorded temperature at the hour or half hour reaches or exceeds the cut-off temperature, the responsible person is to advise the Umpire of the Day, who after confirming the temperature, will direct all players to stop playing after completing the end in play. Any resulting dead ends will not be replayed. Play will be abandoned for the day
